UFC 66 Results

Wow what an amazing event. It's been a while since I have seen such a good event. In addition to the greats fights we also were blessed with the great news that Mirko CroCop Filipovic will definitely be coming to the UFC and in fact will be fighting at UFC 67. We all know Crocop from PrideFC. I am very pleased to see him come to the UFC because the heavyweight division in the UFC is pretty ghetto. Tim Slivia is not much of a champion. It won't be long before Crocop gets his shot at Silvia and takes the title away from him. So if I was Tim Silva I would enjoy that belt while you still got it. The sad reality of Crocop leaving Pride and coming to UFC is that there is nothing else Crocop could do in Pride. He CAN NOT beat Fedor Emelianko the current heavyweight champion in Pride so he might as well come to UFC and be the champ here. The whole unlimited weight class tournament was a joke because Fedor was not in it due to injury. The other good news we got tonight is that Quinton Rampage Jackson will be fighting at UFC 67. I'm sure they are going to put him up against some ham n' egger so he can just smoke him but maybe I'm wrong we shall see. I've always been a big fan of Jackson as I love guys that can slam opponents. He is however in the same boat that Crocop is in. He was unable to beat the current champion in Pride Wanderlei Silva. Anyways enough with the chit chat lets get on to the results.

Christian Wellisch defeats Anthony Perosh by Decision
Yushin Okami defeats Rory Singer by Submission
Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Carmelo Marrero by Submission
Thiago Alves defeats Tony DeSouza by KO
Michael Bisping defeats Eric Schafer by TKO
Andrei Arlovski defeats Marcio Cruz by KO
Jason MacDonald defeats Chris Leben by Submission
Keith Jardine defeats Forrest Griffin by TKO
Chuck Liddell defeats Tito Ortiz by TKO

Let me start with the Chuck Tito fight since thats why most of you are here. In the first round Tito came out swinging and was throing some big right hands. Chuck was just standing around throwing the odd punch here and there - not really pursuing Tito very actively. Tito tried a few takedowns but they were pathetic and were easily sprawled. Then Chuck cracked Tito with a punch and punced on him throwing endless strikes but somehow Tito managed to weather the storm and survive the round. Round 2 we saw much of the same thing as round one... Eddie Bravo socred the 2nd round 10 to 9 for Tito. Round 3 Tito kicked chuck with a leg kick and appeared to have broken his foot. Half way through the round they began to exchange flurries of punches and AS USUAL Chuck got the better of the exchange and kept going with it eventually dropping Tito to the mat and finishing him with strikes. After the match was over Tito said that was the best he could do and that he brought his A game and was sorry he let his fans down. I honestly think he could have done a better job taking him down and I think he shoudl get together with Randy Couture and go over some of the stuff Couture was talking about after the event. Who is next for Chuck Liddell? Probably its going to be Rampage Jackson just because it will draw viewers but Jackson doesn't stand much of a chance in my opinion.

Ok lets talk about my fellow Canadian Jason MacDonald and his win over Chris Leben. I have to say I was impressed with Leben in this fight. I always saw him as a sloppy fighter but today I saw how far he has come. He still got a bit sloppy and perhaps that's why he lost but I think with more training he can go far. MacDonald took a look of shots in this fight but was relentless with his attempt to take Leben down. He FINALLY got him down and then went to work. He secured a guillotine from the top in half guard and then transitioned into a very weird back/side/O_o kind of position while still holding the choke. He got his legs somehow around Leben and secured the body triangle. Eventually Leben went to sleep and could barely tap out. Now that MacDonald has taken out 2 of the 3 The Ultimate Fighter Champions will they pit him against Mike Swick and will MacDonald be able to pull off a sweep of all the TUF opponents. "Call me the TUF Killer" he said tonight to Joe Rogan.

Forrest Griffin.... wow I was impressed watching him in this fight vs Keith Jardine right up until the point where he ate a devastating uppercut by Jardine. Instead of trying to recover he tried to press on and ate a few more shots, fell to the ground and then Jardine pounded the snot out of him until the ref stopped it. Afterwards Griffin was really pissed and was crying. I'm sure he has got used to the nice lifestyle of fighting in the UFC and in order to stay there you NEED TO WIN. He actually RAN out of the ring to the dressing room :'(

Arlovski was back on point and looked hungry and pissed off lol. Very interesting fight with Marcio Cruz and it looked as though cruz was going to submit him when they went to the ground but they were basically trying to ankle/leg lock each other and Arlovski kicked Cruz in the face prompting Yamasaki to pause the fight and give Arlovski a warning. Then they resumed fighting... within a few secs after that Arlovski as if saying "ok I'm not allowed to kick so I will just punch you" sat up and smashed Cruz in the face causing him to reel back and slouch over. Then Arlovski simply had to sit up and pound away on Cruz's head till the ref stopped it.

Hidehiko Yoshida VS James Thompson

Well well it seems that Hidehiko Yoshida VS James Thompson will be happenning at PRIDE SHOCKWAVE 2006 on Dec. 31st. I realllllllllly hope that Thompson can get a win here because I really like this guy. He just needs to slow down and not go crazy like he usually does. As big as he is (and he is huge) he can't take a punch very well :S He has a tendancy to stand there and slug head shots and usually loses. Of course Yoshida isn't exactly a striker but that don't matter. I think Yoshida has a good chance of winning this fight if he can take Thompson down to the ground and control him and submit him. It should be interesting either way.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Marcio Cruz

Moving along here with the matchups taking place in the upcoming UFC 66 we take a look at Andrei Arlovski vs. Marcio Cruz. Arlovski has been less then impressive in the last performances I have seen from him. Perhaps all this losing has motivated him to win. We will see how he handles the takedowns of Cruz. Cruz as you all probably know is a Jiu Jitsu expert holding various titles in pure JJ competitions like 2000 Abu Dhabi champion. We all know that Arlovski likes to strike and has good takedown defence but honestly if he does not knockout Cruz in the first round he is in big trouble. I think you will see Cruz win this fight by submission. I just checked the odds on this fight and they are a whopping 4:1 in favour of Arlovski wow I didn't realize that lol - I guess I am the only one that thinks Arlovski is going to lose. We shall see how much I know soon I guess lol.

Forrest Griffin vs. Keith Jardine

I am gonna talk about the upcoming fights at ufc 66 and I'm gonna start with Forrest Griffin vs. Keith Jardine. I think that Griffin will win. I don't think Jardine is capable of taking him out and thats the only way to beat Griffin, is to take him out cuz he keeps on ticking like an energizer battery. Jardine was good vs Bonnar but I don't think he can beat Forest Grifin. I think it will be a good fight and should be some hardcore banging for all 3 rounds. I would love to see Forrest ground and pound Jardine but a standing knockout or an arm bar would be fine too :D

UFC 66: LIddell vs Ortiz 2

UPDATE: LOOKING FOR THE UFC 66 RESULTS? CLICK HERE

Well here is the fight card for the upcoming UFC66 featuring Chuck vs Tito:

Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz
Andrei Arlovski vs. Marcio Cruz
Forrest Griffin vs. Keith Jardine
Michael Bisping vs. Eric Schafer
Chris Leben vs. Jason MacDonald
Yushin Okami vs. Rory Singer
Thiago Alves vs. Tony DeSouza
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Carmelo Marrero
Anthony Perosh vs. Christian Wellisch

I'm not going to say much more about the chuk vs tito fight as everything that could be said has been said about this fight - we will just have to wait and see. I'm looking forward to seeing "The Count" Michael Bisping fight again. He has been my favorite TUF fighter to date. I really think he can go very far in the UFC. Looking forward to watching the pitbull arlovsky fight again as well. Hopefully he can let his hands go this time and not lay back like he did last time vs silvia. I'm looking forward to seeing my Canadian guy Jason MacDonald submit Chris Leben or even knock him out. I can't stand Chris Leben and I enjoyed watching Anderson Silva whoop him :D

Big John McCarthy on Inside the UFC

I missed episode 3 of inside the ufc with joe rogan so I just watched it tonight and it had some cool stuff with Big John McCarthy.

I didn't know he was an MMA practioner and teacher himself lol also I didn't know he is the one that brings the gloves to each event and gives em to the fighters.

Also on the show was Shawn the muscle shark Sherk who for some reason boresssssssssss me to death. I dunno what it is about him but he is so blah. I'd like to see someone come along and take the title from him :D

New Coaches for Ultimate Fighter 5 Announced

B.J. Penn and Jens Pulver have been announced to be the coaches for Ultimate Fighter Season 5. They begin to tape in jan and the show should premier in April. It is rumoured that the show will be 100% lightweights - we shall have to wait and see. It is also rumoured that they will be fighting each other. I assume that would mean that B.J. Penn would have to drop weight to make 155... then we would have B.J. Penn vs Jens Pulver probably on PPV. This will be an interesting fight but I don't see how Pulver can beat Penn. I think Penn will win this one pretty easily - sorry Jens :x

Frank “Twinkletoes” Trigg vs Jason “Mayhem” Miller

WellI just watched the fight of Frank Trigg vs Jason Miller on some youtube broadcast. It was from Icon's show back on Dec 1st.

It was a pretty good fight I was surpised to see frank trigg be able to strike and grapple that well. He eventually beat miller to the point that the ref had to stop the fight.

It seemed they were using pride rules because Trigg was stomping on him and soccer kicking him. I really enjoyed having Trigg commentate for Pride but I think he is no longer with pride anymore. I watched the fight with no sound on maybe thats why I thought it was boring lol.

Travis Lutter vs Anderson Silva

As we all know Travis Lutter won the Ultimate Fighter 4 for his weight class. So this means he will be fighting Anderson Silva.

Lutter comes from the Lion's Den in Dallas and everyone is ranting and raving how his BJJ is soooo good and how his style matches up so good against Silva. I have a very hard time picturing Anderson Silva on his back getting submitted.

The same way I have hard time picturing Chuck Liddell on his back vs Tito... but hey this is MMA and these things happen. I don't think Anderson Silva is ready to give up his title so soon. He knows Luter will be going for the shoot all the time and will eb prepared for it. I think that Silva is going to be prepared and I think he is going to win. Many people forget that Anderson Silva is a black belt himself in BJJ and trained under the Nogeria's I think we might see Travis Lutter vs Rich Franklin in the not too distant future onc ehe loses. I have seen polls on forums giving it to Silva 80% to 20%. Silva ftw.

UFC Fight Night 8 on SpikeTV Results

Well tonight I watched another UFC Fight Night Live from the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It was pretty cool to have it inside the hangar. The crowd was all marines and lol it was nuts in there.

At one point they were all shouting "F$^K HIM UP" and they actually muted the audio for a few seconds. The Davis Carter fight was first and it was pretty boring.

Shonie Carter tried his stupid spinning backfist but basically just got picked apart by Davis who could have esily finished the fight but didn't cuz he thought maybe Carter was sandbagging and acting tired - lame. Next was Fickett and Parisyan and this was an entertaining fight. It's hard to believe that the oddsmakers made Parisyan a 4:1 favorite. He barely won this fight and took a nasty nasty elbow from Fickett while Fickett was on the ground that left him with a huge open cut right under his eye - hello permanent scarring on the face :x Next was Joslin and Koscheck which was a decent fight. I have to agree with Joe Rogan that Koscheck is probably the best welterweight wrestler in MMA right now. The guy is a like a bull with his takedowns. He needs some work on finishing and passing the guard but otherwise he had a solid showing. Joslin showed some good striking but nothing with knockout power. Last fight was Sanchez and Riggs. Riggs has always let me down - he seems lackluster at best but nooooo apparently he is in a new camp and he is a new fighter. Well unfortunately he got owned by Sanchez - shortly into the first round they exchanged punches - Sanchez got hit in the eye and Riggs got smoked in the chin and felll to the ground - Sanchez saw that and rushed at him. As Riggs was getting up he let both knees come off the mat and Sanchez hit him with a flying knee that knocked him right out. It was very close to being an illegal knee but in the replay you can see both Rigg's knees are clearly off the mat. I didn't think this fight would be over so quickly. oh well... Here are the matchups and results:

Diego Sanchez vs Joe Riggs -- Sanchez wins by knockout flying knee
Jeff Joslin vs Josh Koscheck -- Koscheck wins by decision
Drew Fickett vs Karo Parisyan -- Parisyan wins by decision
Marcus Davis vs Shonie Carter -- Davis wins by decision
Victor Valimaki vs David Heath -- Heath wins by decision
Alan Belcher vs Jorge Santiago -- Blecher wins by knockout
Dave Menne vs Luigi Fioravanti -- Fioravanti wins by stoppage
Keito Nakamura vs Brock Larson -- Larson wins by decision
Logan Clark vs Steve Byrnes Clark wins by decision

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and others back in the UFC

Well it looks like the UFC has swooped in and picked up a bunch of fighters from the soon to be defunct WFA.

If you recall a few months back the World Fighting Alliance was dubbing that it had Rampage Jackson and also Bas Rutten.

The guy that was running the WFA sued the owners or something to that degree - the bottom line is that Dana White and Zuffa swooped in and scooped up all their fighters. Jackson was to be paid a % of the pay per view event but only 50,000 people bought it so he barely made any money. There is some deal going down with HBO and some league called the WEC. Bottom line is Zuffa might have two labels now... UFC and WEC and I think WEC is gonna be on HBO. So if they stick Rampage Jackson in the WEC then they can circumvent paying him a % of the pay per view. I really hope they don't do that. I'd like to see him get paid. He used to be one of my favorite fighters. I mean who doesn't love a guy that slams people on their head, howls at the crowd and wears a big thick chain :D Anyhoo I was sad to see him lose to Vanderlei Silva in Pride several times. What pisses me off is the way he allowed himself to get clinched and kneed so bad two fights in a row with him. The latest fights I seen with him since then have been lackluster though he did win. I know he has always had problems with not having enough people to train with. Bottom line is I hope he comes to UFC and I hope he gets with a decent camp. I hope they don't put him against Liddell right away. Though that might happen especially if he loses to Tito.

Pride FC Shockwave 2006

December 31st Pride Fighting Championship will hold an event called Shockwave 2006 and will feature a heavyweight title bout between Fedor Emelianeko and Mark Hunt....

LOL @ Mark Hunt wtf... there is no decent competition in the heavyweight division anymore. Anyhoo here is the fight card:

Fedor Emelianeko vs. Mark Hunt
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Gilbret Melendez
Shinya Aoki vs. Joachim Hansen
Mauricio Shogun vs. Nakamura Kazuhiro
Takanori Gomi vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida

Well I haven't posted about PrideFC yet and to be honest I don't remember details about all the fighters - especially the asian ones :s I do know that I can not stand Takanori Gomi. He is arrogant and I don't like his one dimensional fighting style. I hope he gets choked out again. I know that I DO like Mauricio Shogun who is fighting Nakamura Kazuhiro who I have seen fight countless times but for some reason I don't remember his fighting style. I think he is a jiu jitsu guy so he will of course lose to Shogun who is a BJJ master. The main event will be laughable in my opinion. I think that Fedor will do to Hunt what he did to Coleman which was to take his time picking him apart like a noob. I believe he COULD finish the fight very quickly but I think he is getting bored of winning so easily so he delays the inevitable on his opponent to give the crowd a bit of a show. Fedor is my favorite fighter right in the world right now. I don't think there is anyone alive that can beat him at the moment... no one at any weight.

The Science of Fighting

Apparently the human body is the most complex weapon on earth. I just watched Fight Science a show from national geographic.

I have to say it was very cool the way they measured the power etc of the different fighting styles.

The tae-kwon-do guy had the hardest strike with a spinning back kick applying about 1500lbs of pressure on the crash test dummy they were kicking.

He was some austrlian dude and he had some mad striking skills. They also had this ninja guy jumping around on these towers demonstrating his balance etc - that was pretty cool considering all the other arts were unable to maintain their balance. They also showed some cool stuff about pressure points that ninjas use to disable or even kill their opponent. For the jiu jitsu they had Rickson Gracie but they didn't show much about that style because I guess they thought it was too boring. They dubbed the ninjitsu guy as the best style which I thought was a joke considering that Gracie would have easily tapped the guy out. I can't see these strikes to the underam etc actually being pulled off in a real fight. They show was neat but thats about it :) I was watching the IFL international fight league tonight as well but zzzzzz it was boring as hell.. I'm not a big fan of the whole team concept considering the fights are all one on one - lol it would be cool if they could do tag team.

Roger Gracie vs. Fedor Emelianenko coming soon!

Wow I had never heard of Roger Gracie before tonight. Tonight I finally watched the Bodog Fight... man the people in Vancouver are so laid back they were barely cheering lol.

I think the overall production was a bit cheesy but hey its all good. So Roger Gracie beat Ron Waterman easily in the first round with an armbar. He looked like an oversized Royce, same physique, same style, same danagerous guard.

Perhaps he is the one man that will be able to topple Fedor because yes thats right it seems that Fedor is joining the Bodog organization. I guess this means he is leaving Pride?

I will have to figure this out. One day they will inevitably fight and I look forward to it. There was some other good fights on the card but nothing too memorable. I'm not a big fan of the no elbows rule they had along with the no 3 point attack - blah. One thing that really pisses me off is when a fighter makes no attempt to pass guard at least to side control even when he is sitting in a constantly open guard. There were a few fighters I thought would win when I assessed their stats and the intro they showed on each guy and in a few cases I was totally wrong - thats what I love about mixed martial arts. The other thing that still amazes to shock me is how weak some guy's chins are and conversly how solid other fighters are. I'm ranting now so I will stop lawl.

Inside the UFC: Matt Serra and GSP

Well I finally watched the first installment of SpikeTV's "Inside the UFC" a new show with Joe Rogan as the host.

I liked it - I thought it was pretty cool, too bad its only 30 minutes long though, I would have preferred an hour so he could chat more with the guests.

Other than talking to Dana White about the different leagues in MMA and having him hint at UFC vs Pride or something he sat down with Matt Serra and GSP to talk about their upcoming fight. Serra says he likes to be the underdog, and GSP is still tripping on about winning the title. I think Serra has a chance if he takes him down... blah blah everyone says that... but thats the reality of the fight. It should be interesting to see what the odds will be on this fight.
